**Job Summary**

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in the Arlington, VA office. Work ranges from regulatory compliance and policy analysis to field work involving site characterization and risk management recommendations. The appropriately qualified applicant will demonstrate experience and working knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements, environmental science principles, and site characterization methods.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Develops and assists with management of Environment Health and Safety regulatory compliance programs for federal clients, including tasks associated with permits, audits, planning, reporting, and recordkeeping for multiple environmental media areas

+ Understands applicable EHS regulations as they relate to DOD activities and prepares and provides summary of relevant requirements for projects

+ Participates in aspects of proposal preparation and scoping exercises, such as sourcing and seeking quotes from subcontractors/suppliers and writing sections of past performance

+ May supervise and delegate various tasks to junior staff and/or subcontractors

+ Will be a self-starter, anticipating and initiating field and reporting activities without prompting from the Sr. Project Manager

+ Overall general support for environmental projects

+ Develops and implements environmental solutions and best management practices; and supports environmental planning activities

+ Supports planning and executing projects for the DoD in the areas of environmental compliance and/or cleanup

+ Performs environmental regulatory research and analysis

+ Develops environmental policy and technical guidance

+ Uses environmental science principles to assess potential contaminant release, transport, and exposure

+ Performs field work including sampling and data collection at project sites, often requiring extended travel

+ Writes work planning documents (e.g., UFP-QAPP) and technical reports

+ Works in teams of scientists and technicians in execution of project tasks

+ Analyzes data sets, draws conclusions, and develops risk management recommendations

+ Interfaces with clients to identify technical requirements

+ Meets required schedules while producing quality work

+ Provides administrative support to technical projects

+ Manages personal workloads, apprising project managers of progress and obstacles, and presenting project outputs for final delivery

+ Works independently with minimal supervision and completes multiple tasks under tight deadlines

+ Works both in a team environment and without supervision

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in environmental science, chemistry, or related science field

+ 5+ years of experience

+ Strong work ethic and professional demeanor

+ Proficient in standard office computer applications and software, to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

+ Demonstrate familiarity of federal environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the mission and installations within the Department of Defense (e.g., Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation Liability Act, Clean Air Act.)

+ Demonstrate ability to conduct field measurement activities in accordance with established protocols

+ Demonstrate excellent oral communication and writing skills. Will be required to present a technical writing sample prior to interview

+ Must be able to pass OSHA required medical physical

+ Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required

+ Must be capable of passing a National Agency Check, which will be required to gain access to Government IT Systems

+ Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance once hired

+ Must have thorough knowledge of OSHA and State and Federal safety regulations

+ Strong work ethic and professional demeanor

+ Must possess a valid driver's license

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Initial 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour refresher training

+ 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety training

+ Experience conducting surface water and ground water sampling

+ Familiarization developing Conceptual Site Models

+ Experience planning and conducting CERCLA site inspections and remedial investigations

+ Experience and working knowledge of military munitions regulatory and explosives safety policy requirements

+ Military experience and familiarity with relevant military facilities and organizations
