Gensler’s Integrated Communications (GIC) Studio is seeking a Media Relations Manager who will represent practice areas within the firm including aviation, education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and planning and urban design. The Media Relations Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing strategic media relations plans for these practice areas, their projects, and thought leaders and thought leadership at the international, national, and local level. Fluency with global trends in these areas as well as a knowledge of key vertical and consumer outlets and writers covering these topics are key to success in this role. Demonstrated social media skills including a proven track record of engaging with online influencers and driving awareness online is a plus.

Duties include but are not limited to media relations, strategic content development across print, web and social platforms, presentation development, awards submission and management, and analytics management. Gensler seeks a highly motivated professional with excellent writing, editing and communication skills. This individual should be passionate about both media relations and architecture and design as it relates to cities, transportation, education, and health.

Your Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in a PR position with experience in the design, architecture, real estate, or building industries is of interest; agency or journalism experience is helpful
  • Experience collaborating with and counseling senior executives (C-suite, Managing Directors, Subject Matter Experts, etc.)
  • Experience working with decentralized multi-location, global and multicultural communications and media relations teams
  • Strong relationships with key national, global architecture and design trade media + consumer lifestyle, news, and business media, and proven track record of placing significant stories
  • Proven ability to set and manage personal priorities and move projects forward with minimal guidance; senior-level initiative; and problem-solving ability

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute global media relations program in support of Gensler’s Integrated Communications studio and the Firm’s public relations objectives
  • Collaborate with and counsel regional media relations managers on practice area campaigns and build cross-functional teams of media relations and marketing managers to execute
  • Develop and maintain contacts at key vertical and consumer lifestyle, news, and business publications
  • Drive executive visibility programs for key practice area leaders to position them as industry experts with media and conferences
  • Amplify research content for thought-leadership positioning
  • Create targeted media collateral: write blogs, feature stories, byline articles for publications
  • Co-ordinate interviews and media training for key Gensler spokespeople
  • Create regular analytics reports for senior leadership
  • Maintain speaking engagement calendar and manage any speaking opportunities, pitches and call for speakers
  • Develop and maintain target awards calendar for leadership

  • Writing: ability to craft, prepare, and execute writing assignments quickly and appropriately across platforms (pitches, project narratives, blog posts, bylines)
  • Presentation: polished professionalism with a comfort level interacting with high-level executives
  • Communication: strong writing, editing, grammar and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational: ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines to a high level under pressure
  • Teamwork: works well as a member of a team, pitches in to help others, forward-thinking go-getter; ability to adapt in dynamic settings
  • Client/customer service: understanding of media relations as a service to the office and firm
  • Experience: At least 7 years of public relations experience; background in architecture, design and journalism is very desirable
  • Software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Adobe Suite and Cision, or other media-related tracking software
