**Job Summary**

AECOM has a nice opportunity for a Safety Intern, supporting our Springfield, VA facility during the summer 2018 season. Under the guidance of a SH&E Manager, the selected candidate will assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of Occupational Safety and Health Programs. Position will aid in the identification and management of risk, SH&E training/education program, incident reporting and investigation, conducting inspections and assessments, and record keeping. Essential duties include aid in the development of plans, procedures, and policies to continuously improve the SH&E program; perform investigations and root cause analysis and provides guidance toward appropriate corrective action; assist the SH&E team in the execution of an effective safety training program by assessing training needs and delivering hands-on and classroom based courses; conduct safety inspections of facilities and behavior based observations of personnel; advise AECOM employees, subcontractors, and client workforce (as needed) on appropriate risk management policies, procedures, and issues of safety; and perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

This position will support 2 programs at 3 locations including McLean, Springfield and Chantilly, VA.

AECOM can offer interns a full-time position upon meeting the following:

+ Successful university graduation from a Safety or related Program.

+ Successful performance as an intern.

+ Application for and receipt of a government TS/SCI clearance. Candidates must be a US citizen to obtain a security clearance.

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Currently in pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Safety or related field.

+ A university student with no more than two academic years remaining before earning a degree. There students are typically rising juniors or rising seniors.

+ Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

+ Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

+ Capable of effectively presenting information and respond to questions.

+ Will be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

+ Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

+ Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

+ Should have a familiarity with common business computer software applications is expected.

+ Desire and ability to obtain professional certification/accreditation (CIH, CSP, etc.) in the safety field is highly desirable.

+ Position requires eligibility and willingness to pass and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance (TS/SCI).

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Active, fully adjudicated TS security clearance is preferred.
